Where shame is concerned, is it better to have a conversation than to avoid it, even if you know there will be no solution or respite? Is it possible to unearth the awkwardness and still move forwards?
Helena started Majesty dancing about royalty, reclamation and sequins. Her posh voice made her defensive and her grandfather's involvement in the 'colonial service' made her retreat. She now endeavors to look at the weight and value of ancestral shame. Her dances might be awkward and clunky but she is scraping at the layers and layers of shit underneath.
A show that asks if shame is getting us anywhere.
