About Reclaim Space:
‘You don’t need planning permission to build castles in the sky’ - Banksy
Buildings and land have been bought and sold since time immemorial. But now public services, spaces and even double decker buses can be bought and branded by multinational companies.
In an age where every square foot carries a price tag, where can the arts reside, flourish and grow?
The arts have the resourcefulness to reclaim quiet corners, empty warehouses and public spaces as their own. You might see it in a protest on a wall, or a reclaimed industrial feature.
Ugly Duck asked artists what reclaiming space means to them. This exhibition presents a dialogue between our new reclaimed space, Off Quay, and the ideas, reflections, thoughts and visions of contemporary artists. We hope to inspire and challenge people to reclaim their own spaces for creativity.
