Strand Palace Hotel has declared Wednesday 1st February as the Big Breakfast Day. To mark the occasion Strand Palace’s dedicated ‘Brekkie Squad’ will take to the streets of London at dawn hand-delivering bacon butties to the capital’s leading radio stations and of course the city’s hard working cabbies.

The celebration comes after the hotel revealed that it serves an incredible 800 breakfasts every day - 292,000 breakfasts every year! Making them the experts in fuelling the most important meal of the day!

Home to one of London’s busiest kitchens Strand Palace Hotel has revealed that if every slice of bread used at breakfast each year was laid end-to-end – an admittedly unlikely prospect – they would stretch from London to Delhi, a distance of over 4,000 miles. Covering those slices takes 220kg of butter.

Each day, the hotel’s kitchen cracks 3,300 eggs – that’s 1.2 million fresh eggs a year. These are often served with bacon from free-range pigs, meaning more than 1,000 rashers are plated up every day, or 365,000 across the year. That’s not to forget the 150,000 organic sausages the hotel’s breakfast consumes annually or the accompanying hand-picked mushrooms: each morning guests consume more than 10,000 – that’s 22kg each and every day.

What about the potatoes? Breakfast alone requires an annual “weigh in” of slightly more than the weight of two London buses. Meanwhile the beans supplied require the equivalent of over 18,000 standard tins each year and the kitchen prepares more than 25kg of hand-picked tomatoes every 24 hours.

To wash that all down, over 12 months some 240,000 tea bags produce 60,000 litres of tea – enough to fill two municipal swimming baths. And every day, Strand Palace guests get through seven cows’ worth of milk, some of which is added to the 80 litres of fair trade coffee helping guests wake up each day.

Prefer to stick with the toast? You’ll still need 15kg of jam and marmalade each morning.

“Big Breakfast Day celebrates the most important meal of the day. At Strand Palace we make sure that everyone can take advantage of our breakfast which is why we are open from 6.30am for business guests and serve until 10.30am for tourists” explains David MacRae, General Manager of the Strand Palace Hotel.

“Every one of our breakfasts is an individual experience for the guest. Perhaps that is why we see such amazing satisfaction levels in our guest surveys – a huge tribute to everyone in the team.”

Strand Palace is also encouraging the public to join in the fun by sharing their breakfast snaps across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook by using the hashtag #BigBreakfastDay2017.
