8:00PM JOSEPHINE DAVIES' SATORI CD LAUNCH Perrier Award-winning saxophonist and composer Josephine Davies performs at the forefront of the British modern jazz scene. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama she is now resident composer and tenorist for the London Jazz Orchestra and is featured on the recent, highly acclaimed big band album from veteran saxophonist Pete Hurt. Tonight Josephine will be launching her latest CD on Whirlwind Recordings based around her new trio project, Satori, which features two of the UK's finest jazz musicians, drummer Paul Clarvis (Steve Swallow) and bassist Dave Whitford (Bill Frisell). Influenced by the great live trio recordings of the likes of Joe Henderson and Julian Argüelles, Satori were inspired to create a similar feeling of freedom and exploration whilst also bringing a fresh and unique identity through original compositions. Jo describes Satotri like this: "with Dave on bass and Paul on drums, cymbals, spoons and assorted tinkery(!), this chord-less line-up features open and playful compositions with a focus on group improvisation and the interaction between space and sound". Sounds fun and promises to be a fine evening from one of London’s great new outfits.

“Davies...a fluid, sumptuous sound” Jazzwise; “Davies...high class....assured and highly skilled” The Jazz Mann
