Enjoy a free romantic evening of classical music performed by the British Army's string orchestra formed in 2014 at the prestigious Guards' Chapel in central London. The evening will include the popular 'Spring' from the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, the theme music from the motion picture Titanic, Mozart's famous Eine kleine Nachtmusik and a medley of the music from the film My Fair Lady. On 3 March 2014 Her Majesty The Queen graciously approved the title of ‘The Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra’ for the new Army String Orchestra in recognition of the Corps of Army Music’s Colonel in Chief, The Countess of Wessex GCVO. The Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra was created as part of recent changes within the Corps of Army Music and came into being on 1 April 2014 and perform at events such as investitures, ceremonies at Royal Households, state banquets and dinners. There have been string players in the Army for over 250 years and The Royal Artillery Regiment could boast of having the first professional orchestra in Britain. However this is the first time the Army has a dedicated ensemble where its members can concentrate solely on playing stringed instruments without the need to learn a marching band instrument as was the case in the past.
