The Wellcome Book Prize is delighted to be joining Book Slam, the UK’s most successful regular literary event, for a one-off literary club night at Wellcome Collection on Monday 13 March.

Book Slam x Wellcome Book Prize will take place on the eve of the shortlist announcement for the 2017 prize, and will feature a stellar line-up of poets, musicians and authors. Topping the bill is the inimitable Val McDermid, acclaimed Scottish crime writer and Chair of the 2017 judging panel.

The Wellcome Book Prize celebrates exceptional works of fiction and non-fiction that engage with the topics of health and medicine, and joining Val on the line-up will be two of this year’s longlisted authors. Jo Marchant will be discussing her longlisted title Cure, a ground-breaking look at the new science behind the mind's surprising ability to influence our health, and Adam Rutherford, in contention for A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived, will take the audience on a dazzling tour of the latest genetic discoveries of our time.

The evening will also see performances from witty poet, qualified accountant and retired army major Martin Figura, along with poet, performer and writer Salena Godden, who contributed to the award-winning anthology The Good Immigrant.

The evening’s music will come from indie-folk singer songwriter Lucy Rose, as well as a DJ set from London-based electric dance producer Bullion.
