Shorts On Tap and Girls On Film present: WOMEN IN REVOLT - A Seat At The Table - 7 Short Films Directed by Women of Colour on THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY Wednesday, March 8th at 93 Feet East, Brick Lane, London E1 from 7pm.

Wednesday the 8th of March is International Women's Day (very strange concept - what happens to all the men for 24 hours?) and we are celebrating Women In Revolt style by partnering with an arts organisation, a charity and a bunch of female artists. But we are also commiserating the fact that on a day allegedly set aside for all women to be celebrated, black and mixed race women everywhere will inevitably be side-lined by a mainstream feminist conversation that doesn't acknowledge the multi-layered nature of inequality.

Too often in seemingly beautiful congregations of women there are stories of ignorance by white women towards their black sisters. We have only one view point on this: it's counter-productive. We are either fighting for equality en masse or not fighting for it at all, and silence is a deadly choice.

Therefore, in collaboration with Skin Deep, we bring you Women In Revolt: A Seat At The Table on the 8th March. Unpacking this Solange-coined phrase, we will be hearing stories of black and brown women who have faced dual-oppression for their sex as well as their race, and beaten the odds. We will discuss the struggle of obtaining a seat at the table and getting your voice heard when you're born into an environment designed for you to be othered; dehumanised. We'll celebrate how inspiring women of colour have been and continue to be for all people as they rise above the hostility they face.

7 short films will be screened along with special ActOne performances and a panel discussion featuring fillmakers, industry people and generally inspiring women.

Women In Revolt is programmed by Girls On Film: a female writers collective dedicated to revolting against inequality through art. Their vision for Women In Revolt is a cross-art, all-inclusive space where platforms can be given to forcibly silenced voices, ideas can be shared, and freedom from structural oppression be realised.
