Oxford House is pleased to announce the opening of our second March exhibition with new works by Noriko Michigami.

East End Trail is the second series of her paintings about the East End. She painted the first series mostly between 1992 and 1994 when she was a student. At that time she was new to East London and she experienced great curiosity, looking at the views and expressing her feelings on canvas from different angles.

This time she travelled and researched a little further. She especially enjoyed walking along the Regent’s Canal: she found it to be the best place for people to escape from the busy and noisy city life. The water not only added a reflection of the beauty of the place but had a healing quality for people’s minds. Mostly she painted on 18” x 24” canvas with oil. She was more concerned with space and depth in the landscape than in her previous series.

“Over 2 decades, East London has rapidly changed. Everywhere there are many more blocks of flats and office buildings. However, the view of East London always holds a charm for me.” – Noriko Michigami

‘East End Trail‘ represents her research footage and is an ongoing painting project.

Private View: 17 March, 6.30-9.30pm
