Hura Nights: sounds of the Anatolian underground coming to Central London

Visitors to North Londons underground scene will know all about its epic psychedelic folk scene. Now one of its main proponents – Djanan Turan – is planning a monthly takeover of The Library, a lush members club in Covent Garden.

Launching on Friday 24 March, Hura Nights (Arabic for free woman) is a live music and DJ event featuring the vivacious singer-songwriter and her hip musician friends. Their uplifting global beats will get party-goers surfing an exotic wave of disco, reggae, and trancey Anatolian rhythms.

Originally from Turkey, musical chanteuse Djanan saw Hura Nights in a dream and took it as an omen to curate a new night of free expression. Her heavy-hitting house band includes, Alice Mary Williamson (the gorgeous clarinet enchanter), Al Maranca (bass & saz), Bubu (drums) and Fatih Ebrem (him of the famed wah wah guitar), collectively drawing on their Mediterranean and Middle Eastern roots melded with wider musical influences that are so typical of their North London underground jams.
Each month, Djanan will be joined by special guests, DJs and performers. For the launch night, Hura Nights will have globetrotting turntablist and A World in London presenter DJ Ritu on the decks. A musical chameleon, her repertoire includes soul, disco, Motown, pop, drum n bass, as well as Turkish, Greek, African, Latin, and Middle-Eastern sounds.

And to top things off, entry to this monthly cultural extravaganza at The Library is free of charge. Admission into this gorgeously intimate and exclusive venue is strictly by guest list, so reserve the date and book your place now: email your name to [email protected]
