ChatBots have taken on an amazing new lease of life with the proliferation of social media channels like Facebook, Twitter and Slack, and in particular the way these platforms are being extended to support complex app-like interactions rather than simple posting and commenting.

Join us to explore the fascinating world of bots and to build one in record time, using simple tools and techniques in Python or JavaScript. After a brief introduction and demo, you'll work in pairs to understand and develop richer functionality from a simple example. A little coding experience is necessary, but don't worry if you're not an expert: you'll still be able to develop a neat and fun bot, and we'll have plenty of people on hand to help!

This event is brought to you by the team leading LCCM’s Digital Product Development Degree, an innovative new course that gives you the power to create and code products that people need in their lives.

Why ChatBots?
A ChatBot is a service that you interact with via a chat interface, powered by rules and/or artificial intelligence. Why are people excited about ChatBots? Because, for the first time ever people are using messenger apps more than social networks (Matt Schlicht, Chatbot Magazine 2016).

This is why ChatBots are such a big deal: they are a huge opportunity for someone willing to jump in and build something that people want. We're going to teach you how to do this is just 2 hours.

Attendance is free but extremely limited, so please sign up here for your ticket to the event.

Who can attend this event?
If you've got an interest in technology, we want to meet you... and your ChatBot creation.

This event will especially suit School or sixth form college students (years 12/13) learning about computer science, programming or coding and considering a technology related degree at university.

Perhaps you are interested in a career as a software or platform engineer, website or mobile app developer, full-stack software developer or product tester - or perhaps you just love getting your head around the latest gadgets!
