Patronage in music and arts from Thomas Howard to Napoleon

Distinguished pianist Tomasz Lis will present the sixth concert in the series of Music At Unique Venues. Lauderdale House was built in 1582 during the reign of Elisabeth I. In 1645 the house was inherited by Earl of Lauderdale and visited by such notable people like Charles II, Samuel Pepys and Nell Gwyn.

During the evening Tomasz will give a concert as well as discuss the subject of patronage in music and arts illustrated with paintings by van Dyck, Raphael, Rubens, de Champaigne, Canaletto and Ingres.
Wine will be served during the interval and the audience will have exclusive access to the house and its surrounding gardens.

Programme:
J.S.Bach - Italian Concerto BWV971
J.Haydn - Sonata in D, No. 50 Hob.XVI/37
J.Haydn - Sonata in B, No. 47 Hob.XVI/32
L. van Beethoven - 15 Variations Op. 35 in Eb major with a Fugue "Eroica"
In a world of increasingly standardised experiences Music At Unique Venues concert series allows the audience to enjoy the music and art in an entirely new, exciting and indulgent way. Each concert is given at spectacular, unusual and often not open to the general public venues. Every evening has a theme reflected in the programme as well as in the lecture given on art taking place during the concert. Art often reflects on the music performed, sometimes it's in opposition to it but there is always a thought provoking link between the two. Paintings are projected on the screen and available for contemplation during the concert. The aim is to present music in its wider cultural, political, historical context and not as an isolated art form. Guests are welcome to enjoy fabulous surroundings having a glass of wine or a candlelight dinner of exquisite cuisine during the interval.
