Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden is throwing open its doors to the public on Saturday 24th June – Freemasonry’s official 300th anniversary – for the public to come and see an exhibition of exciting new work by its first ever Artist in Residence taking place during its Open Day.
Artist Jacques Viljoen has been given unprecedented access to objects and spaces throughout the nine-floor Grade 2* listed Freemasons’ Hall – one of the finest Art Deco buildings in England.
Entrance to the Open Day and exhibition is FREE and visitors will be able to:
- Explore the Artist in Residence’s unique works along with those of nine guest artists in the exhibition 'Rough to Smooth: Art inspired by Freemasonry – past, present and future'
- Tour the building and gain unique access to the impressive and ornate Grand Temple, the Library and Museum, the Shrine to the fallen WWI Freemasons and much more
- Peek into a typical lodge room where thousands of masons meet each day
- View over 150 traditional oil paintings by some of the most famous artists of their time, as well as decorative stained glass windows and sculptures
- Listen to musical performances by the Occasional Strings quartet, the Art Deco Orchestra and the Grand Organist Carl Jackson
‘Rough to smooth: Art inspired by Freemasonry – past, present and future’ will run until 1 July, 2017 at Freemasons' Hall.
