British Comedy Film To Net Funds For Jewish Arab Tennis Programme

On Sunday 2 July, the eve of Wimbledon, Tony Hawks, a tennis playing British comedian, is helping to raise money for a coexistence tennis charity in Israel. In a sometimes tense atmosphere of cultural, religious and political differences, the Freddie Krivine Foundation has been teaching tennis to Jewish and Arab children in Israel for over 15 years. This is a subject close to Tony's heart as he created the Tennis for Free charity in the UK to bring children of different backgrounds together.
At 7.30pm, 2 July, the Freddie Krivine Foundation will be holding a fund-raiser at the JW3 Community Centre in London's West Hampstead; a screening of the film, 'Playing the Moldovans at Tennis". The comedy was produced, written and directed by its star, Tony Hawks, the result of a somewhat bizarre wager he made after England beat Moldova 4:0 at Wembley. Formerly, a ranked county tennis junior and now a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s "I’m Sorry I Haven't a Clue', Tony will introduce his film and take questions afterwards.

To make Sunday 2 July a day-long family affair, from 3pm to 6pm two Israeli pro coaches, Mohamed Rashwan and Kamal Kiwan, alumni of the Freddie Krivine tennis programmes will be giving free tennis lessons for children under 10 on a Hampstead beach. Taking place on JW3's now famous down-sized replica of Tel Aviv's endless sandy beaches, the coaches will be using mini-tennis kits, with soft balls and small-size rackets, in the first event of its kind in the centre.

Jane Krivine said: “What better way to kick off Wimbledon than to celebrate that tennis is a sport for everyone and as with all sports we can use events like this to bring people together where previously there may have been a divide.
