This summer, the Bridewell Theatre in the heart of the City of London will become the home of new and innovative opera productions.

A double-bill of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "crime-thriller" opera and Pietro Mascagni's gentle story about a failed love.

Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart & Salieri follows the apocryphal legend that Antonio Salieri poisoned his rival and fellow composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart out of jealousy over his talent. Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) used the short story Mozart and Salieri by Alexander Pushkin as libretto, which also inspired Peter Shaffer’s play and film Amadeus.

Mascagni's opera Zanetto tells of the encounter between young Zanetto and rich curtesan Silvia, who recognises her one love in the wandering poet.

The project “Fin de Siècle“ is generously supported by Golsoncott Foundation.
