This looks like fun. Joining one of our favourite singer/songwriters this evening in a special gig to mark the launch of her novel ‘Say My Name’ (Harper Collins) will be the US-based writer, screenwriter and producer Allegra Huston. Allegra's previous memoir, 'Love Child', charting her experiences growing up with two famous fathers, film director John Huston and British historian John Julius Norwich, received widespread critical acclaim. "Say My Name", Allegra's first novel, explores an erotic affair between a young man and an older woman with part of the plot revolving around a song entitled "Jasmine", especially written for the novel by Sarah. A unique and creative musical force, Sarah’s style has been described by Rock’n’Reel as “a bracingly eclectic mix of Beat poetry with jazz, folk and Middle Eastern elements”. Her terrific lyrics reflect her passion for politics (she writes occasional political papers and fundraises for numerous causes) and the music is witty, poignant, quirky and swinging. Hailed as one of the major singer-songwriters on the British scene, Sarah has 4 albums to her name, “Stalking Juliet” (2009) and “In the Current Climate” (2011) both received 4 & 5 star reviews in the Independent, the Guardian and the Times, and “Glory Days” (2013) was called “her best mix yet of hooky tunes & smart lyrics” (MOJO) and her latest offering "Roundhouse Bounty" (2016), released on Audio Network, has been universally well received. She has toured extensively in the UK and Europe performing at festivals, theatres, arts centres and headlining at major venues, and has also appeared live on both BBC Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’ and ‘Start the Week’ as well as BBC London 94.9’s ‘Simon Lederman’ show. Her first collection of poetry and lyrics is due to be released in November 2017 at the LJF. Sarah met Allegra in 2013 when she was playing the iconic Taos Masa Brewery in New Mexico. As Sarah explains "We became fast friends, driving around the desert playing music by day, drinking Taos whiskey in Allegra's hacienda by night and hanging out with the community of artists and musicians that still flock to Northern New Mexico." This special concert will bring Allegra and Sarah together for the first time in London, with readings by Allegra from her novel and a performance by Sarah of her song 'Jasmine'. As well as this, of course, Sarah will also be playing songs through the evening from her most recent albums as well as a selection of material from her back catalogue, accompanied by her excellent band: Koby Israelite (accordion/piano), Ruth Goller (bass) and Emiliano Caroselli (drums).

“…an incandescent new presence who matches her imposing delivery with superior lyrics” Guardian; “Haunting tunes and striking lyrics … yearningly pretty and bitter sweet.” The Independent
