Leon Greening is a truly impressive jazz pianist. Since being named runner up in the Sun Alliance Young Jazz Musician of the Year Awards in 1999 he has gone on to establish an enviable career on the UK jazz scene. His straight ahead, swinging, hard bop style, inspired by the likes of US greats Bud Powell and Wynton Kelly (Miles Davis), has been heard with many of the leading UK jazz artists, including Peter King, Jim Mullen, Clark Tracey, Dave Cliff, Guy Barker, Matt Wates, Alex Garnett, Gareth Lockrane and Anita Wardell. Leon is also an experienced teacher, composer and bandleader, with an excellent CD "Cookin' in Brooklyn" to his name. Recorded in New York we play it at the Club all the time! Fluent and melodic, his mature playing in the classic bebop tradition places him without doubt in the vanguard of the British modern jazz scene. Appearing with Leon this evening are, unsurprisingly, some of the finest straight ahead players around, 606 regulars Alex Garnett-sax, Adam King-bass and Steve Brown-drums.

“(Greening)…stole the show...phenomenal” Jazzsteps; “Alex Garnett…one of Great Britain’s most accomplished post bop musicians” AllAboutJazz
