Freddy Kempf is one of today's most successful pianists. He came to prominence during the 90s when he won BBC Young Musician of the Year and third prize in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition. His third prize (as apposed to first) caused uproar with the competition's audience and the Russian press hailed him as "the hero of the competition". His programme includes Beethoven's Shakespearean-esque 'Tempest', Prokofiev's pianistic showcase Sonata No. 1 and Robert Schumann's exultant 'Novelletten'.
Programme:
Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 No. 2
Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 1
Interval
Schumann: Acht Novelletten, Op. 21
