About the event
SHOUT! is a drama group for 13-18 year olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
The groups provide a safe and supportive environment, co-facilitated by an experienced theatre practitioner and drama therapist, and alongside specialist volunteers and Peer Mentors. Exercises are designed to build communication skills, confidence, team-work and expression, using role play to explore participants' specific interests. Each term lasts for ten sessions and is completely free of charge.
Sessions start with Safe Space, which is essentially a drop-in where young people can choose to participate in activities, talk to friends or engage with staff members. Following this, the drama session begins, where participants take part in a range of games and exercises designed to build confidence, social skills and expression.
We work with a maximum of 15 young people at any one time to ensure that there is significant support available. Young people who have attended sessions have reported benefits including increased self-esteem, making friends, being able to express their feelings better, as well as learning additional skills in drama.
