The Walthamstow Pizza

Local pizza company Sodo celebrates diversity of Walthamstow with special pizza

This October, Sodo is celebrating the diversity of Walthamstow by creating an eight slice pizza that will have differentiating and authentic toppings to represent the eight largest communities living in Walthamstow, based on the last census. In aid of the pizza’s launch, there will be a community street party held outside the Sodo Walthamstow restaurant on the 8th October, between 2-10pm, with a live band and guest speakers. People can also get the Walthamstow pizza for free if they turn up in a group of eight, all of different nationalities.

The restaurant is located on Hatherley Mews, just off of Hoe Street. The event chimes with the end of British Food Fortnight (23rd September – 8th October) and serves as a celebration of how eclectic the food scene is in Britain today.

By creating this Walthamstow pizza, Sodo is highlighting the wonderful diversity of one of London’s most multicultural areas and aiming to spread harmony in communities, showing that food can bring people together and be used as a symbolism of togetherness.

As part of this activity Sodo has partnered with migrant charity, MyLondon to source local chefs to create the pizza. The chefs’ origins range from Britain, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Lithuania, Romania, Jamaica and Poland, reflecting the different origins of the Walthamstow pizza’s toppings.
