Ice cream activists Ben & Jerry’s and humanitarian organisation the International Rescue Committee (IRC) will be giving the people of Britain food – or ice cream – for thought as they embark upon their Home Coming Tour as part of the Together for Refugees campaign.

At a time when people all over the world are being forced to flee their homes, without knowing if they will ever be able to return, Together For Refugees is asking the public to take action by directly contacting European leaders – through a simple digital tool at benjerry.com/refugees – and encouraging them to support historic legislation that could help some of the world’s most vulnerable people rebuild their lives in safety.

So to whip up support, the folks at Ben & Jerry’s and the IRC have put their thinking caps on, pulled out a map and compass, and planned a route around home-inspired locations across the UK - from Home Road to Bed-ford Square, Curtain Road to…ahem…Home(rton) with an all-important, timely message: it’s time to open our arms, open our hearts and come together for refugees in need of a safe place to call home. And because no road trip is complete without snacks, they’re bringing along their latest awareness-raising flavour Home Sweet Honeycomb.

Kicking off in London on Monday 2 October, the Together for Refugees team will be heading everywhere but the kitchen sink, dishing out free scoops of awareness-raising flavour Home Sweet Honeycomb, chatting to concerned citizens and ice cream lovers up and down the country, to show how they can drive action and help give vulnerable refugees a chance to reach safety.

And don’t worry if the autumn weather has you feeling a little chill for a cool scoop, the team will have you covered with blankets, cushions and emergency umbrellas, so you’ll feel right at home!

Rebecca Baron, Social Mission Manager at Ben & Jerry’s said: “With the Home Coming Tour we’re calling in at places with homely names up and down the country, to give people the chance to take action and ensure some of the most vulnerable refugees are able to rebuild their lives in safety. We think the issue is so important that we’re taking to the streets, as we believe that together we can really make change happen!”

Melanie Ward, Director of Policy & Advocacy, International Rescue Committee said: “At a time of unprecedented displacement, not everyone has a safe place to call home. Our Home Coming Tour is the latest instalment of our Together for Refugees campaign, launched on World Refugee Day to allow people to take action and make a real difference to vulnerable refugees by influencing key European legislation on a managed resettlement program. We’re at a really exciting point where we have a genuine chance to make a significant change, and every voice counts.”

Ben & Jerry’s has a history of standing up for issues they believe in, and of using their voice to drive social action – from climate justice to marriage equality. The Home Coming Tour is the latest instalment of an all-important mission to help give vulnerable refugees a home, safe home.
