The launch of 2021 concerts, this evening will explore the poetry of Anna Akhmatova alongside a small sample of Sergei Prokofiev's chamber works, with a particular focus on music for the voice. The programme will showcase works written on either side of the landmark 1917 Russian Revolution. It will begin with songs of youthful promise and compact modernism, and then progress into post-Revolutionary work, showing the development of Prokofiev's more lyrical but also darker style in the Violin Sonata no. 1.
Programme:
Prokofiev: The Ugly Duckling, Violin Sonata no. 1, Akhmatova Songs
Firsova: Two Romances on Anna Akhmatova
Higgins: Requiem PREMIERE
Performers:
Patricia Auchterlonie, Siân Dicker, Mimi Doulton (sopranos); Mairi Grewar, Krystal Tunnicliffe (piano); Tom Rowan-Young (violin)
