Come and join us in marking the Centenary of the Balfour Declaration!

It was British government's statement in 1917 of support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine, on the understanding that the rights of the indigenous people would not be prejudiced.

We honoured the first promise but not the second - and the outcome is what we see in the Middle East.

In words, film and music, the event aims to acknowledge British responsibility for sowing the seeds of conflict in the Middle East.

Politicians, clergy, academics, diplomats will reflect on Britain's relationship with the Middle East in the past and the present. And they will suggest that we bear a responsibility to be pro-active in supporting both Palestinians and Israelis in building a peaceful future based on equal rights for all.

Prof. Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi said: 'The Balfour Project is an inspiring example of a thoughtful, long-enough, inclusive, patient and courageous exercise to affect a nation's thinking, and it seems to have had an encouraging impact.'
