Stan Tracey CBE (1926-2013) an old friend of the Club, was an outstanding figure in the jazz world whose distinguished career spanned six decades of remarkable creativity. A highly influential and stimulating musical voice he inspired not only his peers, but each successive generation of musicians with whom he worked. To celebrate what would have been Stan's 90th year drummer Clark Tracey, who had 35 years working with his father's various bands, has been showcasing his groups around the country. This evening we celebrate Stan's Octet which, with the exception of outstanding newcomer Nadim Teimoori (Stan’s last choice of front man in his quartet), and pianist Mark Edwards the group is made up of original members of the Octet who appeared on the last two recordings. The octet, which was originally formed by Stan over forty years ago, will perform compositions from various suites, including a selection of Stan's later music as well as his earlier output. In addition to Clark, who will be directing proceedings, the Octet is made up of some of the country's finest musicians: Mark Armstrong-trumpet, Mark Nightingale- trombone, Sam Mayne-alto sax, Simon Allen-tenor sax, Nadim Teimoori-tenor/soprano sax, Mark Edwards-piano and Andrew Cleyndert-bass. This promises to be a very special night dedicated to one of the UK's greatest Jazz musicians. Booking advised.
