Simon Lasky is a fine musician who has been at the forefront of the UK jazz scene for some years now. A classically trained pianist and composer, he quickly established a reputation as an impressive jazz player and a talented bandleader after moving to London in 2000. His style is an interesting fusion of rock, Latin and modern jazz, combined with a classical approach to his playing which adds real depth to his performances. Following the launch of has last, highly successful, album “Story Inside” here at the Club in 2015 Simon will be launching his latest album ‘About the Moment' at the club tonight. Over to Simon for a description of the music: “I have spent this last year composing material for my second record. While these new compositions are a natural development from my debut album, they represent a significant move forward in terms of construction and harmony. My writing is much more ambitious and has progressed into what I hope is something exciting and individual, fusing a classical approach to structure with the wonderful immediacy and spontaneity of jazz improvisation.” The recording and the gig tonight will also showcase the latest iteration of his excellent 6-piece band 'The Simon Lasky Group', comprising Luca Boscagin on guitar, Pete Billington on bass, Kuljit Bhamra on tabla & percussion and Sophie Alloway on drums, as well as special guest Philip Achille on harmonica. This promises to be a great night that should simply not be missed.

“Story Inside feels like a paean to well-constructed, uncluttered composition and honest-to-goodness musical texture. There are no rough edges to this sound.” LondonJazz News; "wonderfully diverse and creative music" Paul Jolly '33 Jazz' Records
