Plaistow Artists' Open Studios Day 28th October

On the 28th of October 2017 various Plaistow and surrounding areas’ studios, public spaces and artist’s homes will be opened for the public. Plaistow based Floating Artland Collective and Newham Council joins forces together for the Newham Heritage Week and invites you to meet art community of unexplored E13.

In addition to opportunity to sneak peak into artist’s creative space, some of the artists also offer free taster sessions, free portrait drawing and other exciting activities.

Everyone is welcome to follow the given trail or create their own route. Please check opening times of each venue. Printed maps and artists’ catalogue will be available soon.

PEDRO AGUAYO
'Have you seen my vulvas?' These were the words we been invited with to Pedro Aguayo home. Pedro is a Peruvian origami artist and explorer. He prepared a special origami exposition for the Open studios day: 'This time, I want to explore where I come from using origami (the art of folding paper), to look for that door I had come through to reach this beautiful planet.’

LIZIA WOOLF
Lizia Woolf is representing her journey from art to activism through netting, crochet and macramé. Lizia is telling the story how she started campaigning for women rights and environmental issues.

SUZAN IPEKLIOGLU POTERRY STUDIO
Suzan is inviting to her pottery studio at Applecart's creative hub. With the sculptural work artist tries to catch the colours of the nature by experimenting with a mix of mat and shiny glazes. On the day Suzan will demonstrate pottery wheel process.

FRED APPS DRAWINGS (LIVE)
Visitors will have an opportunity to see a range of watercolour pictures of people seen around Newham borough. Fred will be doing on the spot portraits in the library 10:30-16:00, lunch break at 1pm. Free of charge

INDRA GAVENAITE
Indra will be opening her home space, where her ink drawings and illustrations have been born in the last year. For Indra the most of the influences comes from Lithuania as a childhood country, travels in Europe, South America, Asia, and now London as an adopted home city.

MARCELO RODRIGUEZ
Marcelo will showcase his selection of acrylic on paper paintings. Artist has been born in Bolivia and it's variety of traditional textiles, rich landscape and people, gives an immense share of colour and artistic inspiration to him.

ROSETTA ART CENTRE
Exhibition by Steve Marriott. Steve's work incorporates scenes from horror movies, which had a resonance in his consciousness.

CODY DOCK CENTRE
Your River Lea photo exhibition is a celebration of all things Lea, inspired by its rich history and wonderful ecology. In the evening there will be a free Halloween event featuring: animation, live music, storytelling, bonfire and a bar by the river.
