The prestigious VIA Arts Prize presents a group exhibition of works from the top thirty artists chosen by a distinguished curatorial panel, alongside last year’s first prize-winning Ting-Tong Chang’s solo exhibition, Kosmos.

The exhibition will run from Tuesday 7 November to Thursday 23 November at the Sala Brasil gallery, Embassy of Brasil, 14 -16 Cockspur Street, London, SW1Y 5BL. Please note that the exhibition will be closed on Friday 17 November.

Previously known as the Ibero-American Arts Award, the VIA Arts prize is now in its third year. It is run in partnership with the ACALASP (Association of Cultural Attachés of Latin America, Spain and Portugal), People’s Palace Projects (Queen Mary University of London) and is sponsored by the Itaú Bank.

Open to all UK-based artists, the VIA Arts Prize seeks to celebrate works and artists who draw their inspiration from Ibero-American cultures, environments and peoples. Its objective is to establish cross-cultural pathways and celebrate the UK as a cultural and artistic hub that sees the intersection of vital and diverse migrant populations. The theme for the 2017 edition is Dialogues, continuing to place both cultures in visual and metaphorical conversations.

Artists are required to produce an original work that establishes a point of communication with an artist, work or artistic style characteristic of the regions. They draw inspiration from artists across the regions, such as renowned art icon Frida Kahlo and contemporary visual artist Ernesto Neto. This is an opportunity for artists to explore the history and heritage, culture and perception of Latin American and Iberian countries.

This year’s panel of judges includes world-renowned photographers Anderson & Low, Founding Director of the Delfina Foundation Aaron Cezar, journalist Alastair Smart, researcher and art consultant Silvia Montes, art curator Cecilia Brunson and art critic and curator Dr Michael Asbury.

Ana E. González, President of ACALASP, says “We’re proud to be organising the VIA Arts Prize which in our eyes sees the very best of UK talent inspired by Latin America and Iberia, and in particular their arts, to create original works. It further strengthens creativity and links between our regions and the UK. Art, as an international language, is used in an attempt to break down cultural barriers and encourage partnerships between countries.”

Opening times:
Mondays – Saturdays 10 am – 6pm
