‘Jazzpresent to Europe’ is a collaboration present from The Estonian Jazz Union and Jazzkaar festival for the Republic of Estonia’s 100th birthday. Estonian jazz musicians will travel to Belgium, the UK, Finland, and Germany, to introduce Estonian jazz to a wider audience.

In November 2017 Estonian jazz will be introduced in one of Europe’s most important jazz festivals in London.

This event is in cooperation with the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Republic of Estonia 100 foreign programme, and Enterprise Estonia.

Friday 10 November 2017, 5:30pm / Barbican / FreeStage : Weekend Guitar Trio.
Beguiling soundscapes that encompass jazz, traditional music and striking electronic textures feed into this trio from Estonia's 'sophisticated form of ambient music' (London Jazz).

Saturday 11 November 2017, 4:00pm & 7:30pm / Kings Place (Hall One): Kadri Voorand with Mihkel Mälgand
Kadri Voorand is a well-established vocalist and composer from Estonia, who’s original music and expression has brought her an Estonian Music Awards for The Best Female Artist of the Year and The Best Jazz Album of the Year for her album “Armupurjus” (“Love Intoxication”). Mihkel Mälgand is one of the most active bass players in Estonia. Together they have formed a duo, playing mostly original music, skillfully composed material for piano, bass and voice that's open for improvisation, illustrated with ambient electronic effects.
Full concert: Andy Sheppard Quartet – Beyond the Dancing Sun + Kadri Voorand with Mihkel Mälgand

Sunday 19 November 2017, 2:00pm / Barbican / FreeStage: Erki Pärnoja : Efterglow
Impressionistic guitar riffs, shimmering reverb, Estonia’s Erki Pärnoja creates a mellow, yet rough-hewn soundtrack to an imaginary movie – a highlight of this year’s Tallinn Music Week.

Sunday 19 November 2017, 3:00pm / Barbican / FreeStage: Heavy Beauty
Baltic improv meets metal. Estonian guitarist Jaak Sooäär and Lithuanian bass saxophonist Liudas Mockunas move from sensuous beauty to raw noise, driven by the sheer bass and drum power of Estonia’s premier rock rhythm team.

Sunday 19 November 2017, 4:30pm / Barbican / FreeStage: Peedu Kass Momentum
Bassist Peedu Kass’s ‘intricately-woven remake of the piano trio format’ (Downbeat) made a real impact at their Vortex show last year – proof positive of the quality of music emanating from the Estonian scene.
