Overview: This Art History in the Pub (AHITP) is part of a special season that we are hosting as part of the Being Human festival for the humanities. Being Human’s 2017 focus is around a theme of ‘lost and found’. The festival is taking place nationally 17 – 25 November 2017.

After the screening of a film on Andrea Mantega’s ‘Adoration of the Magi’ Renaissance painting (c. 1494-1505, Getty Museum, LA), Emily Hannam will discuss the Mughal painting, ‘Jahangir presents Prince Khurram with a turban ornament (12 October 1617)’ 1656-57, which will be on display at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace from summer 2018.

Art History in the Pub events reflect our shared commitment to bringing art history and visual culture to a wider public community. AHITP talks last for about 30 minutes, with a break for getting extra drinks, followed by general discussion. This special season of AHITP talks is delivered in partnership with the Open Arts Archive team of The Open University, focusing on artefacts from local collections, and presenting short films produced as part of the Open Arts Object project.

Each pub talk will feature an object or theme from a local collection or exhibition. The art works will range across materials and time, from paintings to performance art, from ancient times to the present. They will be an opportunity for people to learn more about the collections and exhibitions within your local community.
