UCOpera is proud to present the British premiere of Charles Gounod's opera 'Polyeucte'. With ravishing, passionate music 'Polyeucte' tells a story of love and religious fervor in defiance of an all-powerful Roman empire. Polyeucte has converted to Christianity and abandoned the old Roman gods... What will his wife Pauline choose? A talented cast of young singers joins the UCL Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra led by award-winning conductor Charles Peebles. Upcoming British director Thomas Guthrie directs this stark and striking production, bringing Gounod's romantic music and drama to the fore.
