Greenwich Peninsula - Urban Village Fete 2018

On Sunday 20th May 2018, Greenwich Peninsula, London’s newest creative neighbourhood, presents the return of the much-loved Urban Village Fete in partnership with Hemingway Design. The free festival celebrates its fourth year, returning to give Londoners the place to experience the alternative, contemporary twist on the traditional summer fete. Having welcomed over 40,000 revellers so far, the 2018 fete will be bigger and bolder than ever. Whether a lover of music, interested in a fun day out with the kids, or up for a little cultural conversation, Urban Village Fete is the only London festival providing such a varied and free line up of entertainment this summer.

FOR THE MUSIC LOVERS
DJ, broadcaster and producer Gilles Peterson and Brownswood Recordings will be back at the musical helm for the day with Touching Base, William LV and Ruby Savage on the main stage over the course of the day. For those looking for something a little alternative, Jazz Re:freshed, a jazz collective educating listeners on the incredibly diverse, colourful and creative world that is jazz, will be performing live

FOR THE CREATIVES
BBC Radio London’s Robert Elms will once again be back, in conversation with London’s leaders from the creative world to discuss why it’s more important now than ever to Keep London Creative – preserving the city’s identity and providing a place for future generations of creatives to live and work.

FOR THE FAMILY
With walkabout entertainment and a line-up of interactive workshops for all ages, the day festival celebrates all that is creative in the capital. Highlights from the 2018 line-up include the musical gameshow Indeedy Musical Bingo, hilarious comedy act The Sniffer Dogs by Surreal McCoy, a fantastical journey with The Swevenaught Dream Recyclers presented by UK based children’s charity The House of Fairy Tales, eccentric and delightful outdoor theatre Kickmouse presented by Jon Hicks, a chance to get your hands dirty with the Clayground Collective, London’s biggest – and silliest – fancy dress show Club de Fromage, and the opportunity to listen to the unique sound of Powerhouse Gospel Choir.

FOR THE FOODIES
Alongside a huge selection of diverse street vendors such as Le Bao, Pieminister, Yorkshire Burrito, Salty Lions and The Cheese Truck, to name a few, there will also be a fresh food market, presenting a carefully curated mix of London-local artisan business selling cakes, meat, fruit & veg and cheeses. Legendary bakers Cakehole will be back once again, providing sweet treats alongside Sloshed Sorbets – an adult-only version of a kids’ childhood classic.

FOR ART ENTHUSIASTS
With Greenwich Peninsula’s NOW Gallery a stone’s throw from the fete, visitors can also be one of the first to view its new commission that celebrates the best rising talent in the fields of visual arts, I Don’t Have Time For This, by visionary illustrator Hattie Stewart. Launching on the 16th May, the exhibition will allow viewers the opportunity to participate intimately with Stewart’s legendary doodle-bombing illustrations, becoming part of an illustrated fantasy world that results in a short and memorable break from reality.

Free for all to attend, and easily accessible by Jubilee line, Clipper and cable car, the Urban Village Fete will also offer a range of curated designer marketplaces, independent street food vendors, art & design workshops and unique pop-ups. A celebration of the creative spirit of the city, all visitors are welcome to attend, get involved and become a part of the most creatively cool festival in London’s newest neighbourhood.
