For Adults

With Sally Pomme Clayton

This workshop is for absolute beginners who want to start exploring the art of telling a story. Parents, librarians, teachers, nurses, writers, performers … spend the day discovering the creative process of liberating a story from a book, setting it free, and bringing it back to ‘a life on the wind’ by telling it. Performance storyteller and author Sally-Pomme Clayton takes participants through a series of creative, thoughtful and fun practical tasks. The workshop will focus specifically on telling fairytales, myths and legends – traditional stories that belong to us all. We will look at: different types of stories; story structures; memory; meanings; making a story your own; imagery and visualisation. We will use the tools of – writing, map-making, telling, listening, imagining, and re-telling. You will work on our own, in pairs, and in small groups throughout the day. For this workshop participants are asked to bring a short traditional story to work on. A traditional story is a: fairytale; legend; myth; folktale; fable. The story should not be more that two pages long (but it can be as short as half-a-page.) Try to bring a story that you have not told – you will get much more out of the workshop.
