Described as "one of the true greats of Hungarian Jazz" the multi Award Winning guitarist Gabor Juhasz has, over the last 30 years or so, establshed himself as an International artist of considerable repute. One of the most versatile of the current Hungarian guitarists he was a key figure in the development of Hungarian ethno-jazz, at the same time successfully forging his own distinctive style. This is best described as a blending of classic hard bop and more modern jazz with influences gathered from the traditional music of Europe and beyond. As well as running his own groups and recording 5 CD's of his own music, over the years he has also worked with a wide variety of respected International artists, including the likes of Archie Shepp, Palle Mikkelborg, Erik Truffaz, Charlie Mariano, Ian Ballamy and Lars Danielsson. In 2002 he won the Hungarian Gramofon magazine's "Hungarian Jazz" Prize, his CD, "1978", won the "Hungarian Jazz Record Of The Year" award in 2010, in 2014 he was asked to create a new program, inspired by Franz Schubert's Winterreise, for the Arcus Temporum Festival and in 2015 he was named "Jazz Guitar player of the Year". You get the idea, he's very good! The music tonight will feaure Gabor's more straight ahead jazz credentials, accompanied by a rhythm section of some of the finest musicians in the UK - Gareth Williams (Claire Martin, Jerry Bergonzi)-piano, Yuri Goloubev (Bob James, Ralph Towner)-bass and Martin France (Kenny Wheeler, Joe Lovano)-drums. This promises to be a special night featuring a musician who rarely gets heard in the UK and is highly recommended.
