Marion Davies knocks ’em dead in this witty comedy about showbiz, playing a newcomer to Hollywood who wants to make her mark in drama. She grimaces, contorts and does her very best to get a laugh with deadly accurate impressions and her hilariously exaggerated send-ups of acting tropes. The camera loves her and she turns in one of the most side-splitting performances of any era.
See it in a candlelit church with popcorn and a drink. It will be accompanied on the church organ by Donald MacKenzie, resident organist at the Odeon Leicester Square. The organ was recently restored via a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
