Parents invited to swap outgrown kids’ clothes at Barnard Adventure Playground this summer

With the school holidays now in full swing, a new clothes swap pop-up will provide parents with a free, environmentally-friendly way to update their children’s wardrobes this summer. From Monday 30 July onwards* parents can bring good-condition clothing for ages 6-11 along to the Hubbub ‘Street Store’ pop-up at Barnard Adventure Playground, Islington. They will then be able to browse the rails and take away the same number of items in exchange.

Each year, approximately 300,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill in the UK. Environmental charity Hubbub has created Street Store with the aim of tackling this issue, whilst providing parents with the opportunity to obtain good quality clothing at no cost, in a sociable environment where the children can let off steam at the same time.

As the clothes swap will be for items in good condition only, a recycling bank will be available for clothing that is too worn to wear again. And as well as taking part in the children’s clothes swap, parents will also be able to pick up tips on how to care for all clothing so that favourite pieces can be enjoyed for longer.

Street Store will be located at Barnard Adventure Playground, which is easily accessible from Charlotte Terrace at the junction with Copenhagen Street, N1 0JH. Street Store will be open from 9am-11am and from 4pm-5.30pm on weekdays. The project is being funded by North London Waste Authority (NLWA).
