Borough Market is making the summer of sun last a little longer with an ‘South Asian’ themed series of cooking demonstrations on Thursdays throughout September in its Market Hall Demonstration Kitchen. Each week will see chefs, including last year’s Masterchef winner Saliha Mahmood Ahmed, demonstrate dishes from a different region of the Indian subcontinent.

The theme celebrates Borough Market’s status as an International Market. The range of diversity in soil type, climate, culture, religion and ethnic groups across the subcontinent means that South Asian regional cuisines vary substantially from each other and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. The cooking demonstrations will showcase the huge range of South Asian flavours, from delicately fragrant dishes to rich spicing.

Visitors to the Market can head to the iconic glass structure of the Market Hall and get culinary inspiration from Kashmir and Pakistan through to South India. Using unusual ingredients from the region and seasonal ingredients from traders at Borough Market, the chefs will prepare a range of recipes in front of the audience. Recipe cards will be available to take away, enabling visitors to buy the necessary ingredients from traders in the Market and recreate the dishes at home.

No cooking demonstration would be complete without a tasting, and visitors will be able to sample the delicious dishes after watching them being cooked.
