Head to the Streatham Common Kite Day on Sunday 2 September 2018 for a free mini festival packed full of kite flying and spectacular displays.

With displays from a variety of expert flyers as well as stalls selling kites and all things kite related, the 2018 Streatham Common Kite Day promises plenty of fun for all ages. The annual event is now in its 20th year and sees kite enthusiasts from all over the country converge in south London for a day of displays and demonstrations.

Highlights of this year's Streatham Common Kite Day include 20-year veterans Team Spectrum with their sensational kite displays to music and a man-lifting kite display by NASAman. You can see large scale display kites, as well as synchronized kite flying choreographed to music. There's also Flying Fish and numerous bird kite displays to look forward to, and enthusiasts can visit a stall selling kites if you want to fly alongside the experts.

You don't need to go high-tech to get your kite into the air, though – plenty of visitors to the Streatham Common Kite Day will be proudly flying basic sled kites knocked together with a bin-bag, a couple of sticks, some sticky tape and a bit of string. The festival organisers are encouraging everyone to bring along their own DIY kites for a day out on the common, and there'll be kite flying tuition available to help you master the basics.

Many food and drink stalls will be setting up shop for the day during the kite festival, so you can quench your thirst at the bar run by Streatham's own The Inkspot Brewery and then fill up on everything from a hog roast, jerk chicken and burgers to vegetarian delicacies, crepes and ice cream.

There's also a bouncy castle and face painting for kids, as well an array of stalls from many local community organisations and charities. This year we even have live music from local band The Rapture Riders.

In recent years the day-long festival has had thousands of people attend, and this year similar numbers are expected to turn out to watch all the solo routines, trick flyers and races. Keep your fingers crossed for a good wind and enjoy a day of high spirited fun when Kite Day makes a welcome return in September.

The Streatham Common Kite Day takes place from 11am - 5pm, Sunday 2 September 2018, and is proudly supported by Douglas & Gordon. Admission is free.
