Fighting Everyday Sexism

What does everyday sexism look like? How can it be stopped? And what part can people play in the process of changing things? Join acclaimed author & activist Laura Bates for a thought provoking Funzing Talk - where we discuss the current problems with gender inequality in society.

Laura Bates started the Everyday Sexism Project as a way to catalogue instances of sexism experienced by women on a day to day basis. In three years, over 100,000 people have shared their stories, transforming the Project into a global movement, which has launched successful campaigns and used the stories collected to create political, social and legislative change.

In this talk, Bates outlines the project's journey from small website to international sensation and outlines its major findings, providing a snapshot of the situation currently faced by women in the UK and around the world.

She explores the manifestation of sexism across politics, media, education and the internet and looks at the ways in which it intersects with other forms of prejudice. Bates also discusses positive change and possible solutions, including ways in which audience members can play a part in solving the problem.
