Mukul & Ghetto Tigers presents To Father a Nation

English and Bangla | 70 minutes I Age guidance: 16+

The turbulent years of the Indian subcontinent during and after partition are the setting for this political story of activism, liberation and mortality. The play presents the history of the Indian subcontinent from the struggle for colonial rule to the creation of Bangladesh through the eyes of three characters – principally Mujib-ur- Rahman, Indira Gandhi and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who have met in the hereafter to dissect the historical upheaval that upended colonial rule in 1947.

Each has played a role in the creation of Bangladesh, prior to being either assassinated or executed. The stakes couldn’t be higher for an individual, or for a nation.

This is a fictional story, based on true events

Mukul & Ghetto Tigers is based in east London and works on the premise that theatre is a medium for exploration, provocation and innovation, as well as a reminder of social and individual responsibilities. By taking a fresh look at the classics, both western and sub-continental; they aim to mentor and nurture fresh talent alongside established artists through collaboration. Mukul uses play texts, dance, folk forms, music and other expressive arts which revel in the diversity of today’s multicultural society.
