Peut-Porter & Paraa presents #NariShokti and Bangladesh Fashion Revolution

During August 2018, Peut-Porter, a London based interrogative design studio started a long-term collaboration with Dhaka based architecture & design studio Paraa. Both studios use a critical and politically informed design approach. Their ongoing project 'Nari Shokti' reflects on the role and social situation of women in Dhaka and asks a diverse public to collaborate through workshops, street performances and critical design education.

Nari Shokti – Bengali for ‘strong women’ reacts to the Sufragettes’ 100 year anniversary in the UK and takes its starting point in looking at Bangladesh’s economic powerhouse – the ready-made garments industry. Through dedicated workshops, a working class theatre, a chorus of costumes and masks, performances were presented by garment workers, young dancers, women living in and around Kamalapur Railway Station, actors from Prachyanat Theatre and students from BUFT University across four public sites in Dhaka; Kamalapur Railway Station, Shilpakala Theatre, TSC and Shahbag on 31st August 2018.

Peut-Porter, along with Paraa will share their experiences; give critical insights followed by a Q&A session.

This project was supported by British Council UK, Ravensbourne University London, Prachyanat Theatre, BGMEA-BUFT, Hamid Fabrics, Prabartana, Shadona and NDBUS.
