“I have never found a work as dangerously fascinating” (Nietzsche)

Mark Austin (conductor) and Opera Prelude’s young artists.

Join conductor Mark Austin for an engaging introduction to Wagner’s masterpiece. This lecture will explore one of the most influential compositions ever written, and why it came to occupy a central place in Western culture. Mark will illustrate Wagner’s musical language from the piano and place the work in its historical context, drawing on performances by some of the great interpreters of the past. Suitable for Wagnerians and Wagner-doubters alike.

Opera Prelude is a small charity supporting young professional opera singers who give lecture recitals in London. These friendly and inclusive events will introduce you to the international opera singers of tomorrow by way of recitals, concerts and masterclasses.
