City of London Sinfonia does classical concerts a bit differently, particularly at Southwark Cathedral. Audience members are encouraged to relax on cushions, wander around the Cathedral and enjoy the music in whatever capacity they would like. ‘Absolute Bird: Flocks of Europe’ adds another out-of-the-norm experience as at the beginning of the event, the audience essentially become birds as they play a game of musical birdsong by using birdcall recordings on smartphones and tablets to find and congregate in their flocks.

TV presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff (‘Coast’) hosts the event, giving reflections of her experiences of the natural world and of the hens she keeps, as well as guiding you through medieval to classical music inspired by cuckoos, nightingales and Miranda’s favourite hens – from the cheery cuckoo song ‘Sumer is icumen in’ to Haydn’s ‘Hen’ Symphony.
