25th March 2019 onwards will see Michelin-starred restaurants, Gymkhana and Trishna celebrate the Basant Kite Festival, a historic Punjabi kite flying celebration signifying the start of spring and arrival of warmer days. Synonymous with encouraging friends and family to come together and celebrate over delicious fare, Londoners will be invited to enjoy Mothering Sunday festivities, delicious new seasonal menus, an Easter feast and Basant Kite Festival-inspired installations.

Following the bold Diwali installations that transformed the fronts of Gymkhana and Trishna last year, this March will again welcome masterpieces by Early Hours London, incorporating flying kites in rich ochres, warming oranges and saffron yellow. Honouring the traditional festival known for filling spring skies with souring kites, the installations will be in place from the last week of March with striking exotic florals weaving their way in to full bloom in time for the Chelsea Flower Show in May.

Mothering Sunday

To celebrate the all-important Mothering Sunday (31st March), Gymkhana will be opening on a Sunday for the first time (12pm – 8pm). The restaurant’s iconic à la carte menu comprised of signature nashta, kebabs, tikkas, chops, curries and biryanis will be accompanied by a special roast offering; Phagwara Tandoori Kuddad (£38 for two), served with Lasooni Nettle Saag, Heritage Carrot & Roscoff Onion Pickle and Masala Roti. Guests can pair their meal with a refreshing cocktail from the restaurant’s upcoming new menu inspired by the majestic scents of luxury British perfume house, Penhaligon’s. To make the moment even more special, all mothers dining in the restaurant that Sunday will receive a small gift of either a Penhaligon’s Vaara fragrance or candle.
