To mark the closing of Visible Justice, presented by London College of Communication’s Media School for its annual public showcase, join us for a symposium addressing the issues raised by the collaborative multimedia artworks in the exhibition.

Featuring artists Poulomi Basu, David Birkin and Sim Chi Yin, Reprieve director Maya Foa, human rights lawyer Sultana Tafada, Mosireen Collective co-founder Khalid Abdalla writer and London College of Communication Course Leader Max Houghton, speakers will consider the question raised by Jasbir K Puar – whose bodies are available for injury?

Confirmed speakers include:
Khalid Abdalla, actor and co-founder, Mosireen collective
Poulomi Basu, artist
David Birkin, artist
Maya Foa, director, Reprieve
Max Houghton, writer and London College of Communication Course Leader
Sim Chi Yin, artist
Sultana Tafadar, human rights lawyer
The first panel will discuss how legal frameworks control violence enacted on bodies, and how this relates to racialised bodies, specifically in terms of knife crime in the UK, the death penalty in the US, and UK/US torture and rendition of terrorism suspects.

The second panel will focus on how creative interventions, media technologies and activism can change and shape not only discourse, but, sometimes, the law. Speakers will discuss the brutalised menstruating body in rural Nepal, activism through film in post-Tahrir Square Egypt, and embodied transgenerational trauma. Sim Chi Yin, Sim Chi Yin, Magnum Photos Nominee, will present her performance lecture ‘One Day We’ll Understand’.
