Part of the PSA – British Library Events Series

This panel discussion will assess how far the EU Referendum of 2016 and its ongoing repercussions have exacerbated long standing fractures in the Conservative Party, including between supporters of ‘traditional’ Tory values and more liberal conservatives and whether the party, traditionally regarded as an election winning machine, faces an existential crisis. More widely, it will present an opportunity to consider how the rise in populism across the West has had an ideological impact on conservative and centre-right values and what this means for the future of Conservatism in the UK.

The event will be chaired by Professor Agnès Alexandre-Collier (Université de Bourgogne Franche-Comté / Maison Française d'Oxford) and confirmed panellists so far include Professor Tim Bale (Queen Mary University of London) and Suella Braverman MP (Member of Parliament for Fareham).

The PSA - British Library events series have proved to be hugely popular, attracting a diverse audience with the intention of helping the public engage with and develop a better understanding of politics. Previous events, attended by up to 200 people, have featured Francis Fukuyama, Jess Phillips MP, Bernadette McAliskey, Bridget Kendall and Glenda Jackson.

How to Register: Tickets can be purchased via the British Library website.
