Union Chapel is proud to present A Web In The Heart, an immersive theatre piece to raise awareness this Refugee Week. The show will explore how the UK’s hostile refugee policies affect the lives of those they seek to exclude.

Boe Huntress, Artist in Residence at Union Chapel explains, “A sprawling web of immigration controls form 'the hostile environment' a policy designed by the government to deter migrants. But there is another web being weaved - a web of resistance. This performance will take audiences on a journey through Union Chapel, sharing their skills, grief, love and rage along the way, to reimagine the just and beautiful world we want to see.”

The piece is inspired by Augusto Boal who believed that people could use theatre to challenge the oppression they faced in everyday life. The key aim of his ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ techniques is to energise the participants so they become more than mere spectators, and actively seek to explore and transform the reality in which they live.

Presented by artist in residence Boe Huntress, A Web In The Heart includes a team of performers who are affected by the hostile environment.

Three performances are available at 2pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm
