About the event

Elysia Catering & Oliveology will be teaching veggie dips, pesto, fermented vegetables and fruit compote as part of a series of free pop-up cookery classes across the capital for Londoners looking to upskill in the kitchen while also saving on waste, money and the planet.

Run by the Small Change, Big Difference campaign, the classes are aimed at reducing the estimated 910,000* of food that goes to waste from Londoners’ homes every year, and will inspire participants with delicious, quick and easy recipes including vegetarian dips, fruit compotes, veggie dinners and soups from fridge leftovers, as well as savoury bread and butter pudding and ‘best ever’ banana bread, all to make the most of items loitering in fridges and store cupboards and ensure nothing goes to waste.

Meat production causes a shocking 60 percent** of food-related greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, and eating less meat is one practical thing we can do to help. The expert chefs running the workshops are all passionate about food and improving the health of both people and planet; so they’ll be showing how to cook up mouth-watering dishes using mainly grains, fruit and vegetables. All ingredients are provided and will be low cost, healthy and easy to source, making the recipes straight-forward to whip up in your own kitchen!

August’s classes will run every Wednesday and Thursday from 18:20 – 21:00 at venues in Chiswick, Clapham, Bermondsey and central London.

Participants can book the free workshops via Eventbrite, paying a fully refundable £10 deposit as part of the sign-up process. The cookery classes are running until October 2019 and are being run by the Small Change, Big Difference campaign which aims to transform Londoners’ food habits by encouraging people to make a few simple changes.
