This year marks a turning point for the world, with the international community adopting a new global development strategy in September and negotiating a universal deal to combat climate change in December.

To succeed, policymakers must recognise that today’s global imperatives – to eradicate poverty and improve wellbeing, while restoring the Earth’s balance – form a single agenda, and that the most effective means of achieving it is education. (Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO 2019).

As our valued graduates, we welcome your thoughts on the role that design education can play in transforming how students think and act towards one another and the planet.

What do they need to learn? How will this impact on the industries they join and/or the companies they establish? What are the challenges and opportunities for employment and employability? How can you support us in our ambition to bring responsible design practices to the heart of everything we do?

This open discussion aims to bring together the College’s diverse graduates to explore and discuss these increasingly-urgent themes.

This event is part of EMERGENCE, an exhibition and events programme presented by the Design School at London College of Communication, UAL exploring the role of design in working towards goals of sustainable production and consumption, biodiversity, inclusiveness, social cohesion and environmental sustainability.
