Winter Open Weekend at Kingsgate Workshops is our annual celebration of the artists, designers and makers we host in our studios.

The Designer Maker Fair is your opportunity to browse and buy craft and design pieces made by skilled artisans and makers. Jewellery, ceramics, fashion, homewares, décor, furniture and gifts will all be available, as well as wall-based works of art. Alongside this unique shopping opportunity, a range of contemporary artists will open their studios and run events, talks and demonstrations to give insight into their practices.
You can also try out new creative skills in our taster workshops, to see what technique and processes you might be interested in pursuing through the courses offered by some of our artists and designers.
Plus festive warming food and drink, and a chance to see our beautiful industrial space transformed into a sparkling winter grotto.

Director Dan Howard Birt says-
“Kingsgate Workshops is unique in its mix of different practitioners – not only is there a real range of craft and design, both traditional and modern, but we also host contemporary and fine artists whose practices include video, performance, and sculpture as well as painting. Each studio space really does have something unique and fascinating inside.”

Designers and makers taking part in the Designer Maker Fair:
Yvette Kissi / Beverly Bryon / Chisato Tamabayashi / Josie Warshaw / Nigel Atkinson / Naori Priestly / Nan Nan Liu / Kylie Siobhan / Deborah Jaffe / Freya Bramble Carter / Theresa Pateman/ Daphne Carnegy / Chris Bramble / Lynnet Pready / Cosmin Ciofirdel / Polly Pollock

Workshops, Demonstrations & Talks
Get more insight into craft and design techniques as our makers invite you in to their spaces to demonstrate processes, and let you get hands on and try some for yourself. If contemporary and fine art is your thing, enjoy enlightening lectures and talks from artists discussing all aspects of their practice and revealing their latest projects.
The Shop
A curated selection of some of the highlights of the work by our makers will be available for sale in the Shop. We make it easy for our designers and makers to sell their work by managing the transactions for them, commission free, so your purchase in the Shop helps to support them to continue their practice.

Limited edition Photography Book
A celebration and exploration of the breadth of creative practice here at Kingsgate, our new photobook offers sneak peeks into each studio space. Each page will feature a portrait of one of our artists, designers and makers surrounded by the paraphernalia of their work, in spaces they have shaped, developed and decorated, sometimes over years of habitation. Functioning as a visual catalogue or who’s who of Kingsgate Workshops, as well as a snapshot of the many making processes taking place, the photobook will be launched and available for sale at Winter Open Weekend.
