The Friends of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital warmly invite you to an evening of music and song by the Sovereign Singers in aid of a Carers’ Respite Room.
The Friends of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital is a voluntary organisation which supports the work of the hospital for the benefit of patients, their families and staff. Since 2016 the Friends has funded nine ‘Butterfly Rooms’ – specially decorated side rooms for patients at the end of life, designed to provide a comfortable and peaceful environment for them and their families. We are hoping to begin work on a further phase of rooms shortly.
We are now turning our attention to funding a ‘Carers’ Room’: a dedicated space where the friends and family of patients receiving end-of-life care can come for rest, refreshment and support. This project is in its early stages, but it is hoped the Carers’ Room will be a help and comfort to families saying goodbye to a loved one.
The Sovereign Singers began in 2014 at Durham University, comprising some of the university’s best singers. The group and its members have since made London their home. All of the singers juggle their performance commitments with day jobs ranging from teaching to law.
The ensemble regularly sings evensong at St Gabriel’s church in Pimlico and does multiple cathedral residencies each year. Recent highlights include Bristol Cathedral, Truro Cathedral and Exeter Cathedral. The Sovereign Singers also perform in concerts and at private events. These include a concert for the world-famous bass Thomas Allen’s 70th birthday celebrations at Durham Castle, a fundraising concert for Macmillan Cancer Support, and a series of summer weddings (both during the services and the receptions).
