Baker Street Quarter, Marylebone, is set to unveil its first ever Christmas lights on Thursday 21st November, 2019. The beautiful brand-new lights will incorporate four site-specific installations joined together by stunning illuminated lights along iconic Baker Street. Each of the installations tell a story, inspired by the infamous people and places of the Quarter, which include the ‘Baker Street Bazaar’, iconic ‘Marylebone Pleasure Garden’, Lady Montagu’s ‘Blue Stocking Parties’ and of course Sherlock Holmes.

As visitors wander through the charming streets of Baker Street Quarter, Marylebone (running from Baker Street Station to Wigmore Street and Portman Square, taking in popular retail streets Chiltern Street and New Quebec Street), they can discover decorative designs at Portman Square Garden, Manchester Square Garden, 55 Baker Street and the Baker Street/Marylebone Junction, which have been designed by award-winning Michael Grubb Studio.

Explorers can enjoy installations which recognise the Quarter’s eccentric personalities, not forgetting the most famous face, Sherlock Holmes. Lamp columns on the corners of the Baker Street/Marylebone Road Junction will feature a design inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s only Sherlock Holmes Christmas story, ‘The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle’. Visitors will be able to spot illuminated geese perched on the columns and discover the missing blue jewels. These original Christmas lights will keep guests guessing on what else is on display as they meander through the iconic streets of the Quarter.

On Wednesday 4th December at 6pm, visitors will be able to take part in a free Christmas lights discovery walk, ‘Blue Stockings and Carbuncles’. The exclusive tour will take guests on a festive journey to reveal the stories and inspiration behind the Quarter’s first Christmas light installations. After the historical trail, visitors can enjoy 20% off delicious cocktails at the Churchill Bar and Terrace from its newly launched ‘Shades of Winston Churchill’ menu*. To join the hour-long walk guests should meet outside 55 Baker Street (no booking is required) at 6pm.

Whilst exploring the lights, which will be on display between November 21st 2019 and 6th January 2020, visitors can enjoy the festivities furthermore at some of the area’s renowned restaurants, bars and shops. Dine at the likes of Fucina and Chiltern Firehouse for mouthwatering seasonal dishes or enjoy Zetter Townhouse for Christmas cocktails like no other. The Grazing Goat and Kitchen at Holmes also come highly recommended and are well-loved by the Quarter’s locals.

A visit to discover the lights could be combined with a unique shopping experience on 28th November when one of Marylebone’s most loved streets, Chiltern Street, will be hosting its annual Christmas experience. You will find plenty of Christmas offers at stores such as Cox and Power, Trunk and Dashing Tweeds – perfect for Christmas shopping together with enjoying experiences, food and drink.

The launch of the Quarter’s contemporary lights this November will allow guests to wonder at the interesting history whilst looking at something new and beautiful over the Christmas season.

*For 20% off drinks at the Churchill Bar and Terrace, guests will need to inform the bar staff that they have been on the Baker Street Quarter Christmas walk.
